Acupuncture with Moxa
Certain patients suffer from conditions where there is a cold invasion into the body. This may manifest itself as animals who seek out warm places to sleep. In horses a common condition that is considered to be a cold invasion is tying up. In dogs often a stiff neck or back is a cold invasion. When we want to warm an acupuncture point deep in the body we warm the outer tip of the needle and the metal conducts the heat internally. The safest and most effective way to warm the needles is through the application of an herb to the end of the needle. The herb, moxa, is supplied in a tightly bound stick, which burns very slowly but at a high heat. Animals often appear to fall asleep during this therapy, as it is so relaxing.
